《非法移民》是張婉婷和羅啟銳一鳴驚人之作。當年上映，影評一致叫好，榮獲1985年香港電影金像獎最佳導演。導演張婉婷以實錄式戲劇手法，描述中國移民在紐約生活的血淚，有悲有喜。片中並以非職業演員演繹真實個案，交織著年青偷渡客的友誼、愛情與理想的夢。電影以青年張君秋（荊永卓）偷渡紐約，被發現是非法移民，一方面他要籌錢還給偷渡集團，另方面希望通過假結婚獲得居留權，故不斷找尋假結婚對象。亦從旁述及其他非法移民的不同命運，拍攝手法冷靜，不乏溫情。《非法移民》被譽為是張婉婷、羅啟銳「移民三部曲」的第一部，其餘是《秋天的童話》和《八兩金》
